Cheltenham Badlands is one of Ontario’s most striking natural landmarks, where rolling red hills and deep gullies create an almost desert-like landscape right along the Niagara Escarpment.
Formed from exposed Queenston shale over multiple years—and shaped further by erosion from early farming—the terrain feels completely unexpected for southern Ontario, making it a standout stop for photos and scenic views.
Today, the site is protected, so visitors view it from a boardwalk and designated trails to help preserve the fragile landscape while still taking in the views. It’s a short but memorable stop that pairs perfectly with nearby hikes and cafés in Caledon.
